when the fat guy mades us laugh










this fat guy was vasco santana, a portuguese actor in 1920 to 1940. portugal in those times was an imperialist and fascist country. the roles santana played, first in theatres and radio, then in movies, where, most of then, comic and representative of what the fascist regime considers the right image of the portuguese people. and he fits perfectly in those roles. he was fat so he usually played drank people, smokes lots of cigarettes, portuguese cigarettes, and joked about things everybody understands: the needs of poor people. vasco santana was an icon of those times and even today people laugh of his jokes. he made laughing a poor, depressed and non-alphabetized people.
